This introductory course in Indian classical vocal music imparts vocal music skills to students. Students can start at the basic level or at the intermediate level, depending on their existing proficiency in the field (to be determined at the time of admission).
Presented in a simple and accessible manner, the course will cover fundamental concepts and principles of vocal music, both for entry level students, as well as students seeking a higher level of training in vocal music.
Content:
Basic level - Vocal
- Sur (musical notes)
- Alankārs
- Essential concepts of Tāl (rhythm) and Laya (tempo)
- Basics of Rāgas including its components like ‘Sargam geet’ and ‘Lakshan geet’
- Gain practical expertise through ‘Bandishes’ (compositions) across different ragas, enhancing musical skills through hands-on application of acquired knowledge
Intermediate Level - Vocal
- Raga Elaboration with Alaap, Taan and Boltaan
- Explore semi-classical forms such as ‘Thumri’, ‘Dadra’, ‘Bhajan’, ‘Abhang’ etc.
- To enhance proficiency in all aspects covered in the basic level course
