Thetakudi Harihara Vinayakram, affectionately known as Vikku Vinayakram, is an iconic Indian percussionist celebrated for his mastery of the ghatam, a traditional earthen pot. Born in 1942, he has garnered global acclaim, including a Grammy Award. Vikku's musical journey began under the tutelage of his father, Kalaimaamani T. R. Harihara Sharma, and he made his concert debut at an early age. His remarkable skill and nimble fingers elevated the ghatam's prominence, and his international breakthrough came when he joined the fusion group Shakti.
Beyond his performances, Vikku is the Principal of Sri Jaya Ganesh Tala Vadya Vidyalaya in Chennai, an institution founded by his father that continues to nurture budding percussionists. His son, V. Selvaganesh, follows in his musical footsteps. Vikku's philanthropic spirit is noteworthy; he donated his Grammy proceeds to charity and received accolades, including the Hafiz Ali Khan Award and the Padma Shri, affirming his legacy as a global music icon.
