Shantala Subramanyam, the accomplished Flute artist, hails from Bangalore but was nurtured in Chennai, the heartland of Carnatic music. Her instrument of choice is the Venu, a Carnatic bamboo flute that resonates with a warm and captivating sonority. Shantala's musical journey began in her early childhood under the expert guidance of her father, M. N. Subramanyam, and her brother, the eminent flute artist Shashank. Beyond her familial influences, Shantala had the privilege of training with renowned performers such as the late Sri. Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan. Currently, she is continuing her vocal music training under the tutelage of Sri O.S. Thyagarajan and Sri T.V. Gopalakrishnan. Her rhythmic training was further enriched by acclaimed South Indian drummers, including Trichur Sri. Narendran, Patri. Satish Kumar, and Parupalli Phalgun, spanning over a decade.
Shantala's unwavering dedication and rigorous training have garnered her acclaim for her melodic presentations enriched with intricate rhythmic patterns.
