Rudresh Bhajantri

Born on 5th April 1981, in family of musicians, Rudresh is one of the most outstanding young shehnai players in India today. He has drawn his entire inspiration from the great shehnai legend and Bharat Ratna recipient Ustad Bismilla Khan, and began learning music at a young age. He received his initial training on shehnai from his father Shri Tammanna and Guru Shri Fakkirappa Bhajantri at Kittur. Subsequently he started learning from Guru Shri DP Hiremath and Pt. Vadiraj Nimbaragi at the age of 20. Since the year 2009 he is under special guidance of the renowned flute and shehnai maestro Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Pandit Rajendra Prasanna and the former Director of music Indian Air Force Wing Commander Pramod Kumar Jena, Visist Seva Medal, a violinist and sarod player. His Shehnai playing is characterized by an immaculate blowing and fingering technique, the richness and clarity of swaras, technical brilliance, combined with exquisite emotional quality, has made him unique. He has revolutionized his technique and approach towards shehnai playing.

Rudresh has performed in almost all the major music festival in India, and he has performed in many foreign countries like Germany, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. He has also performed at the prestigious Rashtrapati Bhavan and Siri Fort Auditorium in front of the great Indian President Bharat Ratna awardee late Shri. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in the year of 2005, the rendition was highly appreciated. It's worth to mention that Rudresh has served the INDIAN AIR FORCE for 20 years as an Airman.
