This course in Hindustani classical flute aims to impart students with the skills and techniques needed to play Indian classical music on the flute. Students can start at the basic level or at the intermediate level, depending on their existing proficiency in the field (to be determined at the time of admission). This comprehensive course is designed to also introduce you to the timeless traditions and techniques of Indian classical music. By learning the intricate art of playing Hindustani Classical music on the flute, this course immerses you in the world of Indian music through the medium of expression of the flute.

Content: Basic Level - Hindustani Flute - Introduction to Bansuri: Basics of the instrument, including its parts, position of holding and creation of sound - Sargam: Basic notes of Indian classical music and playing them on the instrument. - Simple Melodies: Learn to play simple melodies using the sargam and basic fingerings. - Alankar: Various patterns and sequences of notes to develop dexterity and finger strength. - Introduction to Ragas: Different ragas and their characteristics. - Practicing simple melodies in different ragas. - Basic Taals: Learn to play basic rhythmic cycles such as Teentaal and Dadra.
Intermediate Level - Hindustani Flute
- Advanced Ragas: Learn to play more complex ragas with more intricate phrases and movements. - Practicing playing compositions in different ragas. - Ornamentation: Learn various ornamentations and embellishments such as meend, gamak, and kan. - Practicing incorporating ornamentation into playing melodies. - Advanced Taals: Learn to play complex rhythmic cycles such as Jhaptaal and Ektaal. - Practicing playing compositions in different taals. - Introduction to improvisation: Learn to improvise and create your own variations on ragas and melodies.
