Ankur Mishra

Born to a celebrated family of musicians of the “Banaras Gharana”, Ankur is a rising artist in the field of young sitarists in India. Even today, the Mishra family associates itself with notable figures of the Indian Classical Musical heritage like Pt. Dargahi ji Mishra, Pt. Vikramaditya Mishra, Pt. Ramayan Mishra, Pt. Ranganath Mishra whose students have turned out to be the likes of Padmabhushan Smt. Girija Devi ji, Pt. Samta Prasad Mishra, Lt. Pt. Surendra Mohan Mishra etc.

Ankur was trained under the guidance of Pt. Jalpa Prasad Mishra in vocal music since the age of 6 years and later in sitar by his grandfather, Lt. Pt. Surendra Mohan Mishra (Ex Professor, Faculty of Music, Gorakhpur University) and father Pt. Birendra Nath Mishra (Professor, Dept. of Inst Music, Faculty Of Performing Arts, BHU).He started performing at the age of 13 and now holds a Gold Medal with a Masters Degree in Instrumental Music- Sitar and also a Doctorate from Faculty Of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University. He is also an A Grade artist of Aakashwani. He has worked as faculty for teaching Sitar at Pt.Kartik Kumar Foundation, Mumbai and is also adept at scoring background music for theatre.
